change of plan
Tonight I had to go check on some heifers that we had moved earlier this week: it’s been really incredibly hot today, and someone warned us that there might not be any water left for the heifers, which would be pretty serious.
Now, it’s a Saturday night and I got the call at 8.30pm, while I was in the bath, with a very nice cold drink in hand and a relaxing evening planned. So I could have been annoyed to have to go back out and drive the 30 minutes there and back.
But honestly, it was fun. Even if the heifers didn’t have any water left, we had several options, and the chance of the heifers seriously dehydrated was a small one, since we put them in this pasture only 2 days ago. So I drove with the windows opened and the music blasting, through a beautiful place. The heifers were absolutely fine and we will bring them a trough tomorrow to make sure they have enough water for the next few weeks.
All of this to say that tonight was a good reminder that even though things rarely go exactly according to plan, if you learn to enjoy the process, you might actually have a great time.
