rolling with it

I hate the unexpected. I like to plan, to organise, to anticipate. So when something doesn’t go according to plan I have to say that my natural reaction tends to be freezing.

That doesn’t work on a farm though. You can plan all you want, but something is always going to come up, in one way or another. So unless you want to go nuts, that means accepting the unpredictability and learning to go with the flow. I still plan, I still organise, but I try to let go a bit and it does makes me a better person.

Finding that happy medium, between planning and rolling with it is a skill that I vastly underestimated before becoming a farmer. Because you might be shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t plan, but the unexpected is where the magic happens.
