maximizing
I listened to the Diary of CEO episode with Tim Grover on my walk today, and this one idea really stuck to me: most people focus on maximizing their time, but maximize your focus and you get more time.
Your focus should be most precious to you, because everyone wants to get it. And where your focus goes, your time usually goes too.
In our day to day lives, it is so easy to fall into a trap where we do so many things that don’t even make sense for us, mainly because it is what is expected or out of habit.
If you don’t believe me, can you honestly say, looking at the last week for example, that the way you’ve spend your time everyday was decided consciously?
Every once in a while, usually when I start to get frustrated about life or work in general, I take some time to reflect on what I’m doing and the way I spend my time and attention, to see where I might improve.
The last time I did this, I decided that when we watch a TV show in the evening, I’m only going to watch one episode. It’s not a big deal (unless it’s the latest season of Bridgerton, in which case I will watch several episodes) but with the extra time, I can do a quick work out, read for a bit, do some laundry, all of the things I wish I had more time to do. You have to start somewhere. And chances are, the smaller the step, the easier it’ll be to sustain in the long run.
